Trencher Digital Technologies LLC ("Trencher," "we," "us") operates an online marketplace (the "Platform") connecting homeowners and other property owners ("Customers") with independent contractor businesses ("Pros") for home-repair and home-improvement work. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
By using the Platform you agree to this Policy. It is incorporated into our Terms of Service.
Information you provide:
Information we collect automatically:
Payment information. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe (see Section 4). Bank-account and other payment details are collected and processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full bank-account or card numbers.
We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 (see Section 10), and we do not sell your personal information.
We use personal information to:
We are not in the business of selling personal information. We share it only as described here.
With the other party to a job. To make the marketplace work, certain information is shared between a matched Customer and Pro — for example, a Pro sees the Customer's job details, service address, and any property-access instructions the Customer has added (hidden from a Pro until matched), and both can see each other's in-app messages and post-job reviews. Share only what you're comfortable disclosing to your counterpart.
With our service providers (subprocessors). We use a small number of trusted vendors to operate the Platform, each processing personal information on our behalf, under contract, and only to perform its specific role for us: a payment processor to handle payments, ACH debits, and payouts; a database and file-storage provider to host account data, job records, uploaded documents, messages, and reviews; an email provider to deliver transactional emails; an SMS provider to deliver one-time verification codes; and, on iOS, a push-notification service to deliver notifications to your device. None of these providers may use your information for their own purposes.
Mobile phone numbers. Phone numbers collected for SMS verification or transactional updates are never sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if we reasonably believe it is necessary to comply with law or legal process, enforce our Terms, protect the rights, safety, or property of Trencher or others, or investigate fraud or abuse.
In a business transfer. If Trencher is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
With your direction or consent. We share information at your request or with your consent.
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Platform. After account deletion, we may retain limited information where required or reasonably necessary — for example, transaction and payment records for tax, accounting, dispute, and legal-compliance purposes (including records held by Stripe), and information needed to prevent fraud or enforce our agreements. Retained data is limited to what is reasonably necessary and is deleted or de-identified when no longer needed.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect personal information, including storing passwords only in hashed form and relying on established providers (Supabase, Stripe) for storage and payments. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Property-access instructions (lockbox codes, gate codes, or key locations) are restricted at the database level using Supabase Row-Level Security and are only ever exposed to the specific Pro matched to that job, for the duration of that job.
If a data breach affecting Michigan residents' personal information occurs, we will provide notice as required by Michigan's Identity Theft Protection Act (MCL 445.72) and any other applicable law.
California (CCPA/CPRA). The California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, applies only to businesses that meet its jurisdictional and size thresholds and that do business in California or collect the personal information of California residents. Trencher currently operates only in Michigan, serves Michigan Customers and Pros, does not target California residents, does not sell personal information, and does not meet the CCPA's size thresholds. We therefore do not believe the CCPA applies to Trencher at this time. If that changes, we will update this Policy and honor applicable California rights.
Michigan. As of the "Last updated" date, Michigan has no comprehensive consumer data-privacy law in effect. A bill (the Personal Data Privacy Act, Senate Bill 359) has been introduced but not enacted; if it or a similar law is enacted, we would update our practices accordingly. Michigan's Identity Theft Protection Act already governs data-breach notification, addressed in Section 6.
Other states. Several other states have comprehensive privacy laws with their own thresholds. Because we operate only in Michigan, we do not believe these currently apply. We will re-evaluate this section as our service area grows.
The Platform relies on third parties (such as Stripe) and may link to third-party sites. Their handling of your information is governed by their privacy policies, not this one. We encourage you to review Stripe's privacy policy for how it handles your payment information.
The Platform is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 (or under 13 within the meaning of COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact support@trencherpros.com and we will delete it.
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by email or in-app notice) and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
